Scoopd is operated from Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. We are responsible for the personal information we collect through our website at scoopd.ca. Our designated Privacy Officer can be reached at privacy@scoopd.ca.

2. What Personal Information We Collect

We do not collect sensitive personal information beyond what is listed above. We do not use cookies for tracking. We do not build advertising profiles.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To create and maintain your account
• To display your garage sale listings to other users of the platform
• To send you transactional emails (account verification, password reset)
• To respond to your support requests
• To improve and operate the Scoopd platform

We will not use your personal information for any purpose other than those listed above without obtaining your additional consent first.

4. Who We Share Your Information With

We do not sell your personal information to any third party.

We may share limited information with:

• Web Hosting Canada (WHC) — our hosting provider, who stores our database in Canada
• Nominatim / OpenStreetMap — for address geocoding when you post a listing (no personal data is sent, only the address text)
• Google / Apple — only if you choose to sign in using those services
• Law enforcement — only if required by law or court order

5. Your Rights Under Quebec Law 25 and PIPEDA

As a Quebec resident (or user of our platform), you have the following rights regarding your personal information:

• Right to access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate information
• Right to erasure — request deletion of your account and personal data
• Right to withdraw consent — withdraw your consent at any time (this may affect your ability to use the platform)
• Right to data portability — request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
• Right to object — object to the processing of your personal information

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we permanently remove your personal information from our systems within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it longer.

Listings are automatically marked as ended after their listed end date and removed from public view. They are permanently deleted from our database within 90 days of their end date.

7. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers located in Canada, operated by Web Hosting Canada (WHC). We use industry-standard security practices including password hashing (bcrypt), encrypted HTTPS connections, and restricted database access. In the event of a data breach that poses a serious risk of harm, we will notify affected users and the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (CAI) within the timeframes required by Law 25.

8. Children's Privacy

Scoopd is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you are between 18 and 17, parental or guardian consent is required. If we become aware that a child under 18 has created an account, we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you by email at least 30 days before any material changes take effect. The updated policy will always be available at scoopd.ca/privacy.html.
