πŸ” Browsing Sales

How do I find garage sales near me? β–Ό
Tap the πŸ“ button in the search bar on the home screen and allow location access when prompted. Scoopd will centre the map on your location and sort listings by distance. You can also type a street name, neighbourhood, or postal code into the search bar to find sales in a specific area.
How do I filter by date or category? β–Ό
Use the filter bar just below the map/list toggle. The first row of chips filters by category (Furniture, Clothing, Electronics, etc.) β€” only categories with active listings are shown. The second row filters by date: Today, Tomorrow, This Weekend, or This Week. You can combine a category and a date filter at the same time.
Why can't I see any listings? β–Ό
By default Scoopd only shows active and upcoming sales β€” ended sales are hidden automatically. If you see an empty list, try:

β€’ Switching the date filter to Any Date
β€’ Clearing any category filter by tapping All Sales
β€’ Checking you have an internet connection

If there are genuinely no sales posted in your area yet, you'll see an empty state β€” Scoopd is new and growing!
How do I save a sale to check later? β–Ό
Tap the β™‘ heart icon on any listing card. You'll need to be signed in. All your saved sales are accessible from the β™₯ Saved button in the top nav (desktop) or bottom nav (mobile). From there you can also get directions or view full details.
What does "Live Now" mean? β–Ό
A sale is marked 🟒 Live Now when today's date falls within the sale's listed start and end dates, and the current time is between the listed opening and closing times. If a sale runs multiple days, the badge shows which day you're on (e.g. "Day 2 of 3").

πŸ“‹ Listing a Sale

How do I post my garage sale? β–Ό
Tap + List Sale in the top right corner or bottom navigation bar. You'll need to be signed in and have a verified email address. Fill in your sale title, address, dates, times, and categories β€” then tap Post Sale. Your listing goes live immediately and appears on the map and list for nearby users.
Do I need to include my exact street number? β–Ό
No β€” street number is optional. You can list just a street name (e.g. "Elm St, Gatineau"), an intersection (e.g. "Main St & 5th Ave"), or a neighbourhood. Many sellers prefer not to share their exact address until the day of the sale, which is completely fine. Shoppers will be able to get closer once they arrive in the area.
Can I list a multi-day sale? β–Ό
Yes. In the listing form, set the First day and Last day to different dates. The opening and closing times you set apply to each day of the sale. Shoppers will see it listed as a date range (e.g. "Jun 14 – 16") and the status badge will show which day it's on while the sale is active.
How do I edit or delete my listing? β–Ό
Go to 🏷 My Sales (top nav on desktop, bottom nav on mobile). Find your listing and tap ✏️ Edit to update any details, or Delete to remove it permanently. Deleting a listing cannot be undone.
Why can't I post a sale? β–Ό
The most common reasons are:

β€’ Unverified email β€” you need to confirm your email address before posting. Check your inbox (and junk/spam folder) for a verification link from noreply@scoopd.ca. Tap Resend email in the yellow banner if you didn't receive it.
β€’ Not signed in β€” tap + List Sale and you'll be prompted to sign in.
β€’ Past date selected β€” you can't post a sale with a start date in the past.
Is it free to list a sale? β–Ό
Yes, listing a garage sale on Scoopd is completely free. In the future we may offer optional paid features like promoted listings to help your sale get more visibility, but basic listings will always be free.

πŸ‘€ Account

I didn't receive my verification email β€” what do I do? β–Ό
First, check your junk or spam folder β€” the email sometimes ends up there. If it's not there, tap Resend email in the yellow banner at the top of the page after signing in. If you still don't receive it after a few minutes, contact us with your email address and we'll sort it out.
How do I change my password? β–Ό
Click your avatar (the letter circle) in the top right β†’ βš™οΈ Profile β†’ fill in your current password and your new password under Change Password β†’ tap Update Password.
How do I delete my account? β–Ό
Go to your avatar β†’ βš™οΈ Profile β†’ scroll down to the Danger Zone β†’ tap Delete. You'll need to type "DELETE" to confirm. This permanently removes your account, all your listings, and your personal data within 30 days. This action cannot be undone.
What's the difference between deactivating and deleting my account? β–Ό
Deactivating hides your account and listings temporarily. You can come back any time by signing in and your account will be reactivated.

Deleting permanently removes everything β€” your account, listings, and all personal information. This cannot be reversed.
How do I access my personal data or request it be deleted? β–Ό
Under Quebec's Law 25 and Canada's PIPEDA, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can delete your account yourself through Profile settings. For a full data export or other privacy requests, email us at privacy@scoopd.ca. We will respond within 30 days.

πŸ›‘ Safety

How do I stay safe when attending a garage sale? β–Ό
β€’ Meet in a well-lit, public area whenever possible
β€’ Bring a friend or let someone know where you're going
β€’ Trust your instincts β€” if something feels off, leave
β€’ Inspect items before buying β€” all sales are final between private sellers
β€’ Use cash or trusted payment apps β€” Scoopd does not process any payments
How do I report a suspicious or fraudulent listing? β–Ό
Use the contact form below and select Report a listing as the topic. Include the listing title and address. We review all reports and remove listings that violate our Terms within 24 hours.
Does Scoopd handle payments or guarantees? β–Ό
No. Scoopd is a discovery platform only. All transactions happen directly between the buyer and seller. We do not process payments, hold funds, or offer buyer/seller protection. If you have a dispute with another user, we encourage you to resolve it directly. For safety concerns, contact your local authorities.
What items are prohibited from being listed? β–Ό
You may not list:

β€’ Stolen goods
β€’ Controlled substances or illegal drugs
β€’ Firearms or restricted weapons
β€’ Counterfeit or trademark-infringing items
β€’ Any item whose sale is restricted by Canadian federal or Quebec provincial law

Listings containing prohibited items will be removed and the account may be suspended.

βš™οΈ Technical

The map isn't showing my location β€” what's wrong? β–Ό
Make sure you've allowed location access in your browser. On Safari: Settings β†’ Safari β†’ Location β†’ Allow. On Chrome: tap the lock icon in the address bar β†’ Location β†’ Allow. If you've previously denied location access, you'll need to reset it in your browser or device settings. Scoopd never stores your precise location β€” it's only used in-session to show nearby sales.
Address suggestions aren't appearing when I type β€” why? β–Ό
Address suggestions use the free OpenStreetMap Nominatim service. Make sure you've typed at least 3 characters and have an active internet connection. If suggestions still don't appear, try typing more of the address (including city or province) to help narrow results. You can also post without selecting a suggestion β€” your listing will still appear but won't have a map pin.
Can I add Scoopd to my home screen? β–Ό
Yes! Scoopd is a Progressive Web App (PWA) that works like a native app.

iPhone/iPad (Safari): Tap the Share button β†’ "Add to Home Screen"
Android (Chrome): Tap the three-dot menu β†’ "Add to Home Screen" or "Install App"

Once installed, Scoopd launches full-screen without the browser bar.
Does Scoopd work offline? β–Ό
Basic browsing works offline if you've visited recently β€” your browser caches the page. However, you need an active internet connection to see the latest listings, post a sale, or sign in. An offline banner appears at the top of the page when you lose connection.
